Student Loan Forgiveness
Without student loans, it would be quite difficult for anybody to finance his or her way through college due to the rise in education-related costs. Once you have already applied for a student loan and you have finished a program in college, the next thing that you need to do is pay off the loan that you have. The first repayment for the student loan is usually due six months after your last day in school. By this time, there is a possibility for your loan to be 'forgiven'. Student loan forgiveness is a program which will eliminate your student loan in its entirety or partially.
This is applicable only for federal student loans, which are offered both on a provincial and a national level. For example, in British Columbia, you will be qualified for student loan forgiveness if you are in an eligible profession. This includes nursing, medicine, midwifery, pharmacist, teachers for the visually impaired, teachers for the deaf, school psychologists and technology education teachers. Once you are qualified for the student loan program, it is the government which will shoulder the payments which are due for you student loan, as well as any interest which may have incurred. To learn more about the student loan forgiveness program, you can contact the federal office of the lender which issued your student loan, or you can contact the local office of the Ministry of Advanced Education in your province.
